KIIP 1 Lesson 4: -에 가다 and -에서 grammars = go to “a place” and “at” a location

 

G1. N-에 가다/오다 grammar = go/come to “a place”

- It is used to indicate moving to a certain place. (어떤 장소로 이동함을 나타낼 때 사용해요.)

 

라민 씨, 어디에 가요?

- 학교에 가요.

Ramin, where are you going?

- I'm going to school.

 

이링 씨, 지금 집에 가요?

- 네, 집에 가요.

Yi Ling, are you going home now?

- Yes, I'm going home.

 

제 친구가 한국에 와요.

My friend is coming to Korea.

 

Tense

은행 -> 은행에 가다 (go to bank)

집 -> 집에 가다 (go to home)

마트 -> 마트에 가다 (go to mart)

학교 -> 학교에 가다 (go to school)

 

Examples

 

1. 후엔 씨, 지금 어디에 가요?

- 식당에 가요.

Huen, where are you going now?

- I am going to the restaurant.

 

2. 민수 씨, 지금 어디에 가요?

- 마트에 가요.

Minsoo, where are you going now?

- I am going to the mart.

- 병원에 가요.

G2. N-에서 grammar = “at” a location

- It is used to indicate a place where an action occurs. (어떤 행위나 동작이 이루어지는 장소를 나타낼 때 사용해요.)

 

어디에서 운동해요?

- 헬스장에서 운동해요.

Where do you work out?

-I work out at the gym.

 

이링 씨는 뭐 해요?

- 카페에서 차를 마셔요.

What is Yi Ling doing?

- She is drinking tea at the cafe.

 

잠시드 씨는 영화관에서 영화를 봐요.

Jamshid watches a movie at the cinema.

 

Tense

 

시장 -> 시장에서 (at the market)

백화점 -> 백화점에서 (at the department store)

학교 -> 학교에서 (at the school)

카페 -> 카페에서 (at the café shop)

 

Examples

- 서점에 가요.

거기에서 뭐 해요?

- 서점에서 책을 사요.

- I'm going to the bookstore.

- I buy books at the bookstore.
