🔥 A 9-Year-Old Korean Boy Saves His Mother’s Life with CPR –A Bravery Story 🦸‍♂️

Jung Tae Woon and his mother Park Geum-Ok

A 9-year-old boy from Bucheon, South Korea, is being hailed as a hero after he saved his mother’s life using cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The incredible incident took place on January 8, 2025, at 10:20 PM, when third-grader Jung Tae Woon (also referred to as Tae-un) found his mother unconscious in their home.

Despite his young age, Tae Woon remained calm and quick-witted, immediately calling emergency services (119) and performing CPR—a skill he had learned at school.

🚨 How Tae Woon Saved His Mother’s Life

Tae Woon’s mother, Park Geum-ok, collapsed suddenly while talking to her son in the kitchen. Recalling his training, the young boy shouted for his father and began administering chest compressions.

When calling 119, he provided his home address—which he remembered from past food deliveries—and accurately described his mother’s condition, including whether she was breathing and conscious. Emergency responders noted that although his voice trembled from anxiety, he remained composed and relayed crucial information that helped paramedics arrive and respond swiftly.

👨‍⚕️ Medical Team Praises Tae Woon’s Actions

Upon arrival, paramedics found that Park Geum-ok had no detectable heartbeat. They immediately used an automated external defibrillator (AED) to stabilize her condition before rushing her to the hospital.

🗣️ "The boy played an even greater role than we did," said one emergency responder. "His CPR technique was correct, and he used his full body weight to apply enough pressure for effective chest compressions. His quick response significantly impacted the outcome."

After five days in a coma, Park Geum-ok miraculously regained consciousness. She was discharged on January 14 and has since returned to her daily life.

😭 A Mother’s Gratitude and Emotional Reunion

When Park woke up in the intensive care unit, her son and aunt visited her. Tae Woon burst into tears, repeatedly asking, "Mom, do you recognize me?" Her reply—"As long as I can see you, that’s all that matters."—moved everyone in the room.

Reflecting on the event, Park admitted she remembered nothing about her collapse. Initially, she was unsure about accepting the award her son received, but she later realized that sharing his story could encourage other children to learn CPR and potentially save lives.

🏆 Recognition for a Young Hero

Bucheon Fire Department commended Tae Woon

In honor of his courage and life-saving actions, the Bucheon Fire Department presented Tae Woon with an official commendation  from Fire Chief Ji Joon Ho.

👨‍🚒 "I am deeply moved by Tae Woon’s bravery and skill. His quick response saved his mother’s life. We will continue to promote CPR education so more lives can be saved in the future."

When asked about his emotions during the award ceremony, Tae Woon said it felt like a dream. With his gift card reward, he bought two books—Egg Doctor —and was excited to read them. His classmates were equally proud, with one student even shouting, "You’re amazing, Tae Woon! "

📢 The Importance of CPR Training for Children and Adults

According to medical experts, research shows that in cases of sudden cardiac arrest, performing CPR immediately can increase survival rates by 1.7 times . Brain damage becomes irreversible within four minutes of oxygen deprivation, making early intervention critical.

"CPR is a skill everyone should know—not just adults, but also children," emphasized emergency medical specialists. "This case proves that even a 9-year-old can save a life."

⚽ Tae Woon’s Future Aspirations

Despite his newfound recognition, Tae Woon has no plans to become a doctor or paramedic. Instead, he dreams of becoming a professional soccer player. "I’ve tried many sports, but I love soccer the most," he shared enthusiastically.

Before ending his interview, Tae Woon turned to his mother and said, "Mom, please stay healthy!" To which she smiled and replied, "My son, you are amazing. Thank you so much. Let’s stay happy and healthy together!"
