Grammar Notes & Example Sentences

1. Verb + 을래요? (Shall we...? / Would you like to...?)

Used to make invitations or suggestions in a casual way.

Conjugation Rules:
·        Consonant-ending stems → -을래요? (e.g., 먹다 먹을래요?)

·        Vowel-ending stems → -ㄹ래요? (e.g., 가다 갈래요?)


Examples:

·        주말에 집들이를 거예요. 우리 집에 올래요? - , 갈게요.
(I’m having a housewarming party this weekend. Would you like to come? - Yes, I’ll go.)


·        주말에 같이 먹을래요? - 미안해요. 약속이 있어서 가요.
(Shall we eat together this weekend? - Sorry, I can’t go because I have plans.)


·        우리 어디에서 만날래요? - 회사 근처 커피숍에서 만나요.
(Where shall we meet? - Let’s meet at the café near the office.)


·        길이 많이 막혀요. 조금만 기다려 줄래요? - , 괜찮아요.

     (The traffic is heavy. Can you wait a little longer? - Yes, it’s okay.)



2. Verb/Adjective + 으니까 (Because... / Since...)

Used to explain reasons or causes.

Conjugation Rules:

·        Consonant-ending stems → -으니까 (e.g., 많다 많으니까)

·        Vowel-ending stems → -니까 (e.g., 바쁘다 바쁘니까)


Examples:

·        내일 중요한 회의가 있으니까 늦지 마세요. - , 일찍 오겠습니다.
(Don’t be late because there’s an important meeting tomorrow. - Okay, I’ll come early.)


·        날씨가 좋으니까 산책하러 나갈까요? - 지금은 더우니까 이따가 갑시다.
(Since the weather is nice, shall we go for a walk? - It’s a bit hot now, so let’s go later.)


·        밖에 비가 오니까 우산을 쓰세요.
(It’s raining outside, so please use an umbrella.)


·        집들이를 하니까 세제나 휴지를 사는 어때요?
(Since it’s a housewarming party, how about buying detergent or toilet paper?)
