What was supposed to be a fresh start through an international marriage ended in heartbreak for a 41-year-old Korean man, who discovered that his Vietnamese wife had secretly been working in the sex trade during their marriage. The shocking story was shared by the man himself via the YouTube channel “투우부부” on May 11.

The man, a resident of Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, revealed that after ending a long-term relationship, he decided to find a life partner through an international matchmaking agency. In 2022, he was introduced to 15 Vietnamese women and eventually chose one who was fluent in Korean.
They met in Hai Phong, Vietnam, got engaged within a month, and held a traditional Vietnamese wedding by the end of that year.
In March 2023, the couple entered South Korea together. They held a wedding ceremony in Korea in September before heading to the wife’s hometown for a honeymoon visit.
But just a month later, signs of trouble emerged. The wife began experiencing symptoms of bladder inflammation and underwent medical tests — which revealed four different sexually transmitted infections (STIs). This raised immediate concerns of infidelity.
In October 2024, the wife asked to spend three nights at a “close friend’s” home. Though her husband agreed under the condition that she stay in touch, she cut off all communication during the entire trip.
When she returned, she refused to show her phone and even threatened suicide before leaving the home.
After conducting his own investigation, the husband found that the so-called “friend” was actually a former boyfriend and a regular customer at the bar where his wife had previously worked. She later admitted to keeping in touch with him and meeting several other men—both within and outside her job.
The breaking point came when the man obtained a work schedule from the bar, showing that his wife had been working six days a week since May 2024, serving an average of 3 to 5 clients per day—totaling over 600 encounters. During this time, she consistently lied, claiming she was attending language classes or part-time jobs.
Unable to accept the betrayal, the husband filed for divorce and demanded compensation for emotional and financial damages. Initially, the wife pleaded for leniency and offered to continue working at the bar to repay the debt—but she soon vanished without a trace.
In tears, the man shared:
"I can’t stay silent. If she’s still in Korea, more people could fall victim. I even paid for her language studies at Konkuk University, and she approached many Korean male students under the pretense of being a ‘foreign student.’"
This case has sparked online discussions around the risks associated with international matchmaking, particularly involving fast-track marriage arrangements without deep background checks.
