TWICE is entering a major new chapter — but fans have no reason to say goodbye.
As of August 2026, two members of TWICE have officially left JYP Entertainment to pursue their individual careers under separate management. Jeongyeon announced her departure on August 10, followed by Chaeyoung on August 13.
Despite the changes, all nine members remain part of TWICE, with the group continuing its activities together.
The development marks a new approach for one of K-pop’s biggest girl groups: different agencies for individual careers, but TWICE together as nine.
Jeongyeon Takes the First Step
Jeongyeon became the first TWICE member to announce her departure from JYP Entertainment on August 10.
After more than a decade with the company, she signed an exclusive contract with VARO Entertainment, where she plans to explore individual projects, particularly acting.
VARO is also home to Jeongyeon’s sister, actress Gong Seung-yeon, as well as several prominent Korean actors.
In her message to fans, Jeongyeon expressed her gratitude toward her TWICE members, ONCE, and the JYP family. Most importantly, she emphasized that standing in front of fans as a member of TWICE remains her top priority.
That reassurance quickly became an important message for fans worried about what her agency change could mean for the group.
Chaeyoung Follows With Her Own Musical Journey
Just three days later, on August 13, Chaeyoung announced that she would also leave JYP Entertainment after approximately 14 years with the company.
Rather than signing with another traditional entertainment agency, Chaeyoung is preparing to focus on her own creative and musical activities, including her independent project LIL FANTASY.
Her announcement carried a clear message for ONCE: her departure from JYP does not mean her departure from TWICE.
Chaeyoung reassured fans that TWICE's group activities will continue and asked them to support both her individual work and her role as a TWICE member.
Jeongyeon also showed her support for Chaeyoung's announcement, leaving a sweet strawberry emoji 🍓 that fans quickly noticed.
What Does “Separate But Together” Mean for TWICE?
The two departures highlight an increasingly common model in K-pop: members can manage their solo careers through different agencies while remaining together as a group.
For TWICE, this means the members can have greater freedom to pursue their individual interests while still returning together for group projects.
