5 과: 식당에 가십니까?

가... 윌슨 씨, 어디 가십니까?
나... 저는 학교에 갑니다. 영숙 씨는 식당에 가십니까?
가... 아니오, 식당에 가지 않습니다. 저는 도서관에 갑니다. 철수  씨도 도서관에 갑니다. 우리는 도서관에서 책을 읽습니다.


Vocabulary:

어머니 = mother
엄마 = mom
아버지 = father
아빠 = dad
숙제 = homework
숙제를 하다 = to do your homework
운동 = exercise
운동을 하다 = to do exercise
일 = work
일을 하다 = to do work
같이 = together
혼자 = alone
드시다 = to eat, honorific form
갑니다 = to go

Translate:

Unit 5: Are you going to a restaurant?

A... Mr Wilson, where are you going?
B... I'm going to school.
A... Youngsook, are you going to a restaurant?
B... No, I am not. I am going to library. Chulsoo is going with me. We read books in the library.


Grammars and expressions:

1. N1은/는 N2에 갑니다 : N1 go to N2 (speaker is currently not in/at N2)

저는 도서관에 갑니다.
I am going to library.

영숙 씨는 식당에 가십니까?
Is Youngsook going to restaurant?

*N1은/는 N2에 옵시다 : N1 come to N2 (speaker is in/at N2)

월슨 씨는 한국에 옵니다.
Wilson is coming to Korea.

영숙 씨는 식당에 옵니까?
Is Youngsook coming to the library?


2. N은/는 V-지 않습니다 :  N not V (N is not V-ing)

우리는 영어를 공부하지 않습니다.
We are not studying English.

월슨 씨는 일본어를 배우지 않습니다.
Wilson is not learning Japanese.


3. N도 :  N also

우리는 학교에 갑니다. 철수도 학교에 갑니다.
We are going to school. Chulsoo is also going to school

저도 영어를 가르칩니다.
I also teach English.

철수도 학교에 갑니다.
Chulsoo is also going to school.


4. 같이 : together / 혼자 = alone

우리는 같이 공부합니다.
We study together.


나는 혼자 공부합니다.
I study alone.

집에 혼자 있습니다.
I stay at home alone.


Notes:

1. 선생님 is used to refer to a "teacher" regards of sex, age, or marial status.

2. - 지 않습니다  is a negative marker added to the verb stem to form a negative sentence.

3. 에 is used to denote destination or place when it is followed by a verb such as 가다, 오다, 다리다.

4. 이도/도 (also): 이도  is used when the preceding syllable ends with a consonant, while 도 is used after a vowel.
E.g 영숙이도, 철수도
