26 과: 오늘은 내가 차 값을 낼게요.

가... 오늘은 내가 차 값을 낼게요. 얼마지요?
나... 커피 두 잔 드셨지요? 삼천 육백 원입니다.
가... 여기 만 원 있어요.
나... 거스름돈 받으세요. 육천 사백 원입니다. 감사합니다. 또 오세요.

값 = price
내다 = to pay
거스름돈 = money back
잔돈 = loose change
받다 = to receive
또 = again

A... Right. Price has risen a lot lately.

Grammars and expressions:

1. V-(으)ㄹ게요. : I will V (expressing the speaker's intention or determination)

우리가 그 일을 할게요.
We will do the work.

밤에 일찍 집으로 돌아게요.
I will return home early in the evening.

주말에 역사책을 읽을게요.
I will read the history book in weekend.

2. A/V-지요? : tag question

오늘은 날씨가 춥지요?
- 네, 추워요.
It's cold today, isn't it?
- Yes it is.

*A/V-았지요/었지요? : tag question + past tense.

커피 두 잔을 드셨지요?
- 네, 그래요.
You drank 2 cups of coffee right?
- Yes that's right.

* 얼마지요?  -How much is it?
무엇지요? (shortened form 뭐지?) -What is it?
몇 시지요?

이 책이 얼마지요?
How much is this book?

3. A-군요. : exclamatory ending (for speaking, used to the speaker's surprise at something)

산이 참 아름답군요!
The mountain is very beautiful.

꽃이 참 예쁘군요!
The flower is so beautiful.

그 영화는 아주 재미있군요!
That movie is very interesting.

4. 오르다 : to rise/ to increase.

물건 값이 많이 올랐습니다.
The price of things has risen a lot.

오릅니다 ㅡㅡ 오르고 ㅡㅡ 오르니까 ㅡㅡ 오르지만.

올라요 ㅡㅡ 올랐어요 ㅡㅡ 올라서.

*빠르다 : fast

지하철이 빨라요.
The subway is fast.

5. 내가 /제가 : I + subject marker.

내가 차 값이 내겠어요.
I will pay for the tea.

6. N을/를 내가 : to pay for N

8천 원을 내야 해요.
I have to pay 8000 won.

7. 또 : again.

또 오세요.
Please come again

내일 또 만납시다.
Let's meet again tomorrow.


1. -(으)ㄹ게요 is a sentence ending expressing the speaker's intention or determination. It is used with the first person subject.

2. -군요  is a sentence ending that conveys the speaker's surprised reaction to something. It is used in informal speech.

3. When verbs with stems ending with '르" are followed by  어/아, the  'ㅡ' in 'ㄹ' is deleted. At the same time, the remaining 'ㄹ' becomes part of the preceding syllable and  어/아  changers to 러/라, as seen in 오르다 --> 올라요.
