Translation

Lesson 31. Hangul is worth for boasting to the world.

A... Did Korean people use Hanja (Chinese characters) before Hangul was made?
B... Right. But it is said that Hanja not only has many letters but also is difficult to learn.
A... Then how people write letters?
B... We had Idu writing characters that were borrowed from the sound and meaning of Hanja, but the pronounced word can't be written correctly.
A... Well. So Hangul was made because of that difficulty.
B... That's right. Some scholars who think Hanji culture was important at that time opposed seriously to creating Hangul. But, in spite of serious opposition, King Sejeong and other scholar had researched diligently. That's why our prototype Hangul characters were finished in 1443.
A... The letters that were newly made is worth for boasting to the world. By the way King Sejeong will be upset if he sees the present situation.
B... Right. These days foreign languages seem to be seen more frequently as compared to last few years.
