Usage:
- 대요, 래요, 재요, 냬요 is the casual form of 다고/라고/자도/냐고 하다 grammar
- It is mostly used in colloquial speech or speaking.
1.1 Present tense:
1.1a) Vst + 는/ㄴ다고 하다 --> 는/ㄴ대요.
가다 --> 간대요.
먹다 --> 먹는대요.
만나다 --> 만난대요.
*만들다 --> 만든대요.
1) 수지 씨가 내일 온대요.
Suzy said she will come tomorrow.
2) 우리회사에서 경력 사원을 모집한대요.
I heard that our company is hiring experienced employees.
3) 여름에 사람들은 바다로 간대요.
It is said that people go to the beach in summer.
1.1b) Ast + 다고하다 --> 대요.
바쁘다 --> 바쁘대요.
덥다 --> 덥대요.
유명하다 --> 유명하대요.
1) 민우 씨가 저에게 정말 아름답대요.
Minu said that I am really beautiful.
2) 이 드라마가 너무 유명하대요.
I heard that this drama is very famous.
1.1c) Nst + (이)라고 하다 --> (이)래요.
의사 --> 의사래요.
학생 --> 학생이래요.
1) 베트남에서 축구가 가장 인기 스포츠(이)래요.
I heard that soccer is the most popular sport in Vietnam.
2) 그의 남편은 의사(이)래요.
I heard that her husband is a doctor.
1.2 Past tense: V/Ast + 았/었/였다고 하다 --> 았/었/였대요.
가다 --> 갔대요.
먹다 --> 먹었대요.
춥다 --> 추웠대요.
1) 토니는 5 살 때 키가 작았대요.
Tony said that he was short when he was 5 years old.
2) 어제 모임에 온 사람이 많았대요.
I heard that there were many people attending the yesterday gathering.
3) 지갑을 잃어버렸대요. 찾았어요?
I heard that you lost your wallet. Did you find it?
1.3 Future tense: V/Ast + -(으)ㄹ 거라고 하다 --> -(으)ㄹ 거래요.
만나다 --> 만날 거래요.
먹다 --> 먹을 거래요.
1) 다음 달에 이사할 거래요?
I heard that you will move next month?
2) 그 분이 이번 여름에 한국에 갈 거래요.
I heard that he will go to Korea this summer.
3) 내년부터 한국어능력시험이 더 어려울 거래요.
I heard that the TOPIK exam will be more difficult from next year.
2. Interrogative sentence: 냐고 하다 --> 냬요 ~citing one's question
2.1 Ast + -(으)냐고 하다 --> (으)냬요.
춥다 --> 춥냬요 = 추우냬요
예쁘다 --> 예쁘냬요
재미있다 --> 재미있으냬요
1) 의사님이 어디가 아프냬요.
The doctor asked where you are not comfortable.
2) 영화가 재미있으냬요.
I/he asked if the movie is interesting.
2.2 Vst + -(느)냐고 하다 --> 냬요.
먹다 --> 먹냬요.
만나다 --> 만나냬요.
1) 한국에 온 지 얼마나 됐냬요.
He asked how long have you been in Korea.
2) 이번 한국어능력시험은 언제까지 접수하냬요.
I/he asked until when can I/he sign up for the TOPIK exam.
3) 수지 씨가 매운 음식을 안 먹냬요.
Suzy asked me/you if I/you don't eat spicy food.
4) 엄마가 어디에 가냬요?
Mom asked her child where does he go.
2.3 Nst +(이)냐고 하다 --> (이)냬요
학생 --> 학생이냬요
의사 --> 의사이냬요
1) 여기가 어디냬요.
I/he asked where is this place.
2) 남자 친구가 대학생이냬요.
She/he asked me if my boyfriend is a college student.
3. Suggestive sentence: 자고 하다 --> 재요 ~citing one's suggestion
가다 --> 가재요
먹다 --> 먹재요
출발하다 --> 출발하재요
1) 친구: 우리 주말에 같이 공부해요.
--> 친구가 주말에 같이 공부하재요.
My friend told me to study together on the weekend.
2) 이번 주말에 약속이 있어요?
- 네, 아이가 같이 놀이 공원에 가재요.
Do you have an appointment this weekend?
- Yes, my child suggested me to go to the amusement park with her.
3) 갑자기 여행을 왜 취소하셨어요?
- 아, 내일 비가 올 것 같아서 가지 말재요.
Why did you cancel your trip all of a sudden?
- Oh, it was going to rain tomorrow so I suggested to cancel it.
4. Imperative sentence: 라고 하다 --> 래요 ~citing one's request or command
4.1 Vst + -(으)라고 하다 --> -(으)래요.
가다 --> 가래요.
입다 --> 입으래요.
기다리다 --> 기다리래요.
1) 나: 여기 앉으세요
--> 제가 여기 앉으래요.
I told him to sit here.
2) 누구: 여기에 주차하지 마세요.
--> 여기에 주차하지 말래요.
He told not to park car here.
3) 엄마 : 밥 먹어.
--> 엄마가 밥 먹으래요.
Mother told her child to eat.
4) 선생님: 공부 열심히 하세요.
--> 선생님이 공부 열심히 하래요.
The teacher told her students to study hard.
5) 아빠 : 술 마시지 마.
--> 아빠가 술 마시지 말래요.
Dad told me to not drink alcohol.
4.2 V-아/어 주다
4.2.1 V-아/어/여 달라고 하다 --> V-아/어 달래요 : used when the speaker is making the request directly to the listener.
1) 토니 씨는 물을 달래요.
Tony asked you to bring him some water.
2) 수지 씨가 전화해 달래요.
Suzy told you to call her back.
3) 친구한테 숙제 도와 달래요.
I asked my friend to help me with my homework.
4) 돈을 조금 달래요.
I/he said to give me/him some money
4.2.1 V-아/어/여 주라고 하다 --> 아/어 주래요 : used when the speaker is asking the listener to help the 3rd party.
1) 수지: 토니 씨에게 이 물을 주세요.
--> 수지 씨는 토니 씨에게 이 물을 주래요.
Suzy asked you to give this cup of water to Tony.
2) 민수는 수지한테 숙제 도와 주래요.
Minsu asked you to help Suzy with her homework.
