grammar = An honorific ending used as a short answer to a question. 

 

Usage:

- N or N() grammar is an honorific ending used as a short answer to a question. 

- Particles such as , 에서, , 으로, 부터, 까지, 한테,… can be also used in between N and . For example, 회사에서. = At company.

 

Tense:

Noun + ().

수업 -> 수업요. / 수업이요. (Lecture)

학생 -> 학생요./ 학생이요. (Student)

-> 옷요./ 옷이요. (Clothes)

어디? -> 어디요? (Where?)

공부 -> 공부요. (Study)

한국어 -> 한국어요. (Korean)

학교에서 -> 학교에서요. (At school)

그리고? -> 그리고요? (And?)

왼쪽으로 -> 왼쪽으로요. (On the left)



Examples:

 

1. 한국에서 보고 싶은 여행지가 있어요?

- 제주도요.

Is there any place you want to visit in Korea?

- (It’s) Jeju Island.

 

2. 박스 안에 뭐가 있어요?

- 옷이요.

What's in the box?

- (It’s) clothes.

 

3. 점심에 먹었어요?

- 김밥요. 시간이 없어서 간단하게 먹었어요.

What did you eat for lunch?

- (It’s) gimbap. I didn't have time, so I ate it simply.

 

4. 지난 번에 이야기한 책은 언제 빌려줄까요?

- 지금요. 빨리 보고 싶어요.

When should I lend you the book I talked about last time?

- Right now. I can't wait to see you.

 

5. 저기 마트가 보이네요.

- 어디요? 마트가 어디에 있어요? 저는 보여요.

I can see the mart over there.

- Where? Where is the mart? I can't see it.

 

6. 요즘 많이 바쁘잖아요. 언제 목도리까지 만들 거예요?

- 틈틈이요. 시간이 있을 때마다 만들 거예요.

You're very busy these days. When are you going to make my scarf too?

- In my spare time. I made it whenever I have time.

 

7. 백화점에 가서 샀어요?

- 원피스요. 요즘 세일 중이라서 가격도 아주 싸더군요.

What did you buy at the department store?

- One-piece. It's on sale right now, so the price is very cheap.

 

8. 수지 씨와 어디에서 만나기로 했어요?

- 학교에서요. 수업이 끝나자마자 바로 만나기로 해서요.

Where did you decide to meet Suzy?

- At school. We decided to meet right after class.

 

9. 불고기를 만들 때는 고기와 간장이 필요해요.

- 그리고요? 필요한 것은 없어요?

When making bulgogi, you need meat and soy sauce.

- And? Anything else I need?

 

10. 재료는 어디에서 찾았어요?

- 도서관에서요. 쉬는 시간에 가서 찾았어요.

Where did you find this material?

- In the library. I went to find it during break time.
