Grammar Notes & Example Sentences
1. Verb + 을게요 (Making a Promise)
Use "을게요" when making a promise or commitment to do
something. It is often used when responding to someone or making a decision on
the spot.
Conjugation
Rules:
·
For verbs ending in a consonant → -을게요
·
For verbs ending in a vowel → -ㄹ게요
Examples
·
수지 씨, 오늘 지각했어요. → 죄송합니다. 다음부터 일찍 올게요.
(Suji, you were late today. → I'm sorry. I will come early next time.)
·
저는 아직 일을 다 못 했어요. 밥은 나중에 먹을게요.
(I haven't finished my work yet. I will eat later.)
·
누가 바닥을 쓸 거예요? → 제가 바닥을 쓸게요.
(Who will sweep the floor? → I will sweep it.)
·
제가 생일 케이크를 준비할게요.
(I will prepare the birthday cake.)
·
엄마, 앞으로 일찍 일어날게요.
(Mom, I will wake up early from now on.)
2. Verb + 은 다음에 (After
Doing Something)
Use "은 다음에" to indicate that one action happens after another.
Conjugation
Rules:

For verbs ending in a consonant → -은 다음에
·
For verbs ending in a vowel → -ㄴ 다음에
Examples
·
지금 쓰레기를 버릴까요? → 아니요. 청소를 한 다음에 쓰레기를 버리세요.
(Should I throw out the trash now? → No, clean first and then throw it
away.)
·
과일을 씻은 다음에 냉장고에 넣으세요.
(Wash the fruit first and then put it in the fridge.)
·
영화 본 다음에 밥을 먹을까요? → 네, 좋아요.
(Shall we eat after watching the movie? → Yes, sounds good.)
·
언제 숙제를 할 거예요? → 조금 쉰 다음에 할 거예요.
(When will you do your homework? → I will rest a little and then do it.)
