Welcome to KIIP Level 2: Unit 3! In this lesson, we will learn how to talk about clothes and shoes in Korean. You’ll learn essential vocabulary, key grammar points, and useful phrases to describe what you wear and shop for clothing.

This unit introduces two important grammar structures: Noun + 이나, which expresses choices or alternatives, and Verb-/어 보다, which is used to suggest trying something.

Grammar Notes & Example Sentences

1. Noun + 이나 (Expressing Choices or Alternatives)

Use "이나" after a noun to suggest one or more options.

Conjugation Rules:

·        For nouns ending in a consonant 이나

·        For nouns ending in a vowel

Examples:

·        생일에 무엇을 선물로 좋아할까요? 옷이나 액세서리를 받고 싶어요.
(What would be a good birthday gift?
I want to receive clothes or accessories.)

·        저는 매운 음식을 잘 못 먹어요. 그럼 삼계탕이나 칼국수를 드세요.
(I can't eat spicy food well.
Then try samgyetang or kalguksu.)

·        라민 씨, 토요일이나 일요일에 시간이 있어요? 같이 영화 봐요.
(Ramin, are you free on Saturday or Sunday? Let's watch a movie together.)

·        저는 버스나 지하철을 타고 회사에 가요.
(I take the bus or subway to work.)

 

2. Verb + /어 보다 (Trying Something)

Use "/어 보다" after a verb to indicate trying something out.

Conjugation Rules:

·        If the verb stem ends in , -아 보다

·        Otherwise -어 보다

Examples:

·        이 원피스 디자인이 마음에 들어요. 제 사이즈가 있어요? , 이걸로 한번 입어 보세요.
(I like this dress design. Do you have my size?
Yes, please try this one on.)

·        제주도 가 봤어요? , 작년 여름에 가 봤어요.
(Have you been to Jeju Island?
Yes, I went there last summer.)

·        라민 씨, 한국 음식 중에 삼계탕 먹어 봤어요? , 한번 먹어 봤어요.
(Ramin, have you tried samgyetang among Korean foods?
Yes, I have tried it once.)

·        이 운동화가 아주 편해요. 한번 신어 보세요.
(These sneakers are very comfortable. Try them on.)


Reading Comprehension

우리 회사의 작업복
이 옷은 우리 회사의 작업복입니다. 우리는 작업복으로 티셔츠, 바지, 조끼를 입습니다. 이 티셔츠와 바지는 시원하고 편합니다. 땀도 빨리 마릅니다. 조끼에는 주머니가 많이 있습니다. 그래서 필요한 물건을 넣습니다. 저는 이 옷이 아주 마음에 듭니다.

 

Translation:
These clothes are our company's work uniform. We wear t-shirts, pants, and vests as work attire. These t-shirts and pants are cool and comfortable. Sweat dries quickly. The vest has many pockets, so we can store necessary items. I really like these clothes.
