V-는 길에 usage:
- V-는 길에 is used to indicate that someone is doing something while going somewhere = one the way.../ while going…

- V-는 길에 is only used with Verbs indicating physical movements (가다, 오다, 나가다, 다니다,...)
-V-는 길에 is similar to V-는 도중에, but V-는 도중에 has no restriction on used verbs

V-는 길이다 usage:

- V-는 길이다 is used to indicate someone being in the middle of doing something = on the way

- V-는 길이다 is also used with verbs indicating physical movements only (가다, 오다, 나가다, 다니다, 내려가다, 내려오다,...and 출근하다, 퇴근하다)

-V-는 길에 is similar to V-는 중이다, but V-는 중이다 has no restriction on used verbs

Movement Verb + -는 길에:

가다 -- 가는 길에 (on the way going to ...)
오다 -- 오는 길에 (on the way coming to ...)
나가다 -- 나가는 길에 (while going out...)
다니다 -- 다니는 길에 (while going to ...)
퇴근하다 -- 퇴근하는 길에 (on the way home from work...)
돌아오다 -- 돌아오는 길에 (on the way returning home...)
여행 가다 -- 여행 가는 길에 (while going travel...)

- 네, 유럽에 가는 길에 홍콩에 들러서 친구를 만날 거예요.

- Yes, on the way to Europe I plan to stop by Hong Kong to meet a friend.

2. 엄마, 저 지금 퇴근하는 길이에요. 뭐 필요한 거 있으면 사 갈까요?
- 그럼, 집에 오는 길에 슈퍼에 가서 두부 좀 사 와.

Mom, I am on the way out of office. Is there anything you need to buy?
- Then, on the way home, stop by the supermarket and buy some tofu.

3. 퇴근하는 길에 버스에서 우연히 친구를 만났어요.

I met my friend by chance on the way home on the bus.

4. 집에 돌아오는 길에 시장에 가서 음식을 사 왔어요.

On the way home I bought some foods at the market.

5. 부산으로 여행 가는 길에 대구시 들를 거예요. (들르다 = drop by)

I will drop by Daegu on my trip to Busan.

6. 오늘 학교에 오는 길에 앤디 씨를 우연히 만났어요.

Today I met Andy by chance on the way to school.

7. 제가 회사에 가는 길에 딸이 학교에 데려왔어요.

I take my daughter to school on the way to work.

Can you get me some chicken on the way back home?

9. 집에 돌아오는 길에 서점에 가서 책을 샀어요.

On the way back home, I went to the bookstore and bought a book.

V-는 길이다 = on the way

1. 지금 모임에 가는 길이에요.

I'm on the way to the gathering now.

2. 친구를 마나러 시내에 가는길이에요.

I'm on the way to downtown to meet my friend.

3. 고향에 갔다가 지금 서울로 돌아오는 길이에요.

I went back to my hometown and now I am on my way back to Seoul.

4. 어디 가세요?

- 집에 가는 길이에요.

Where are you going?

- I'm on my way home.

5. 어디에 가세요?
- 운동하러 가는 길이에요.

Where are you going?
- I am on the way to playing some sports.

6. 안나 씨, 지금 어디에 가는 길이에요?
- 친구가 입원해서 문병 가는 길이에요.
