A/V-고요 and -구요 grammar = also, too ~ used to add information or ask for additional information

 

Usage of ~고요:

- (1) 고요 is used to “add information” to your or other person’s statement. = also, too

- (2) 고요 is also used to “ask for additional information” from the other person. (example 12-14)

- In spoken Korean, ending sentence in 고요 makes it sound softer than 아/어요.

 

Usage of ~구요:

- 구요 is a variant of 고요. Some linguists believe that 구요 is actually a dialect of 서울 or 경기도.

- Young Koreans think that saying 구요 sounds cuter than saying 고요, so they use 구요 more often when talking to the older.

 

Tense:

Verb + 고요 / 구요

가다 -> 가고요 / 가구요

왔다 -> 왔고요 / 왔구요

먹다 -> 먹고요 / 먹구요

만나다 -> 만나고요 / 만나구요

배우다 -> 배우고요 / 배우구요

끝나다 -> 끝나고요 / 끝나구요

있다 -> 있고요 / 있구요

없다 -> 없고요 / 없구요

1. 한국에서 기차를 타는 것은 편리해요. 값도 싸고요.

Taking the train in Korea is convenient. It's cheap too.

 

2. 짧은 영화인데요. 그리고 정말 재미있고요.

It's a short movie. And it's really interesting.
