Usage:
- A/V-(으)나 is used to express contrast between two things or state of
affairs. It can be replaced by A/V-지만 grammar without meaning change = but
-
A/V-(으)나 is mainly used in writings or formal situations such as
interviews, speeches, and presentations
Tense:
Verb + (으)나 = but
오다 -> 오나
*살다 -> 사나
먹다
-> 먹으나
읽다
-> 읽으나
*듣다 -> 들으나
Adjective + (으)나 = but
크다 -> 크나
*길다 -> 기나
작다 -> 작으나
짧다 -> 짧으나
*가볍다 -> 가벼우나
*어렵다 -> 어려우나
Noun + (이)나 = but
회사원 -> 회사원이나
학생 -> 학생이나
의사 -> 의사나
Examples:
1. 열심히 공부했으나 전공 성적이 잘 안 나왔습니다.
I
studied hard, but I didn't get good grades in my major.
2. 이 가게의 물건은 가격이 싸나 질이 안 좋습니다.
The
goods in this store are cheap but poor quality.
3. 라면은 맛있으나 건강에는 별로 좋지 않습니다.
Ramen
is delicious, but it is not good for health.
4. 열심히 공부했으나 시험을 못 봤습니다.
I
studied hard, but I couldn't take the test.
5. 내일 아침에는 비가 오겠으나 오후에는 맑겠습니다.
It
will rain tomorrow morning but will be sunny in the afternoon.
6. 채소는 먹으나 고기는 먹지 않습니다.
I
eat vegetables, but I don't eat meat.
7. 오늘 날씨는 좋으나 내일 날씨는 흐리겠습니다.
The
weather today is good but tomorrow it will be cloudy
8. 꿀은 맛있으나 비쌉니다.
Honey
is delicious but expensive.
9. 노래는 잘 부르나 춤은 못 춥니다.
I
can sing well, but I can't dance.
10. 가방이 크다 가볍습니다.
The
bag is large and light.
11. 이 가방은 조금 무거우나 튼튼해요.
This
bag is a bit heavy but sturdy.
12. 한국어는 배우기 여러우나 아주 재미있어요.
Korean
is a lot of fun to learn.
13. 언니는 회사원이나 저는 학생입니다.
My
sister is a company staff, but I am a student.
14. 이 책을 여러 번 읽었으나 내용이 이해가 안 돼요.
I've
read this book several times, but I don't understand its contents.
15. 내일은 비가 오겠으나 바람은 불지 않겠습니다.
It
will rain tomorrow, but the wind will not blow.
16. 영화가 매우 슬폈으나 울지 않았습니다.
The

17. 미카 씨는 외국인이나 한국어를 매우 잘합니다.
Mika
is a foreigner and speaks Korean very well.

I

The price is different, but
