V-아/어라, V-자, A/V-는구나, A/V-니? grammars = Informal endings used when commanding, suggesting, admiring, and asking friends or the younger

 

Usage:

- V-아/어라, V-자, A/V-는구나, A/V-니? are informal endings used when commanding, suggesting, admiring, and asking friends or the younger

 

Tense:

V-아/어라 = (used when commanding)

오다 -> 와라 / 오지 마라

찾다 -> 찾아라 / 찾지 마라

먹다 -> 먹어라 / 먹지 마라

읽다 -> 찍어라 / 찍지 마라

공부하다 -> 공부해라 / 공부하지 마라

산책하다 -> 산책하라 / 산책하지 마라

 

V-자 = (used when suggesting)

오다 -> 오자 / 오지 말자

먹자 -> 먹자 /먹지 말자

받다 -> 받자/받지 말자

하다 -> 하자/ 하지 말자

만나다 -> 만나자 / 만나지 말자

 

A/V-는구나 = (used when admiring)

먹다 -> 먹는구나

가다 -> 가는구나

살다 -> 사는구나

공부하다 -> 공부하는구나

작다 -> 작구나 ; 싸다 -> 싸구나

좋다 -> 좋구나 ; 크다 -> 크구나

 

A/V-니? = (used when asking)

먹다 -> 먹니? ; 가다 -> 가니?

살다 -> 사니? ; 주다 -> 주니?

작다 -> 작니? ; 크다 -> 크니?

맵다  -> 맵니? ; 예쁘다 -> 예쁘니?

Conversion between formal and informal endings:

V-아/어라 = (used when commanding)

1. 조용히 하십시오. -> 조용히 해라.

Please be quiet. -> Be quiet.

 

2. TV를 보지 마십시오. -> TV를 보지 마라.

Please do not watch TV. -> Don’t watch TV.

 

3. 날씨가 추우니까 옷을 두껍게 입으세요. -> 입어라.

The weather is cold, so make sure to wear thick clothes.

 

4. 배고프면 기다리지 말고 먼저 드십시오. -> 먹어라.

If you're hungry, don't wait. Eat first.

 

5. 약 먹고 푹 쉬세요. -> 쉬어라.

Take medicine and rest well.

 

V-자 = (used when suggesting)

1. 노래방에 갑시다. -> 노래방에 가자.

Let’s go the karaoke.

 

2. 오늘은 일하지 맙시다. -> 오늘은 일하지 말자.

Let’s not work today.

 

3. 손님들이 도착하기 전에 같이 집을 치웁시다. -> 치우자.

Let's clean the house together before the guests arrive.

4. 오늘 저녁에는 영화를 보러 갑시다. ->가자.

Let’s go to see movie this evening.

 

A/V-는구나 = (used when admiring)

1. 우와! 리사 씨는 정말 음식을 잘 만드는군요! / 만드는구나!

The content of this history book is very interesting

 

A/V-니? = (used when asking)

1. 어디에 갑니까? -> 어디에 가니?

Where are you going?

 

2. 서류를 보내기 전에 다시 한 번 확인했습니까? / 확인했니?

Did you check again before sending the document?

 

3. 커피숍에서 나올 때 주변을 잘 살펴봤어요? / 살펴봤니? 거기에 아무것도 없었어요? / 없었니?

Did you take a good look around when you left the coffee shop? Was nothing there?

 

Examples:

1. 집에 들어오면 먼저 손부터 씻어라.

When you come home, wash your hands first.

 

2. 넘어지니까 뛰지 마라.

Don't run because you will fall.

 

3. 주말에 같이 공연을 보러 가자.

Let's go see a performance together on the weekend.

 

4. 날씨가 추우니까 오늘은 산책을 하지 마자.

The weather is cold, so let's not go for a walk today.

5. 리사는 다양한 책을 참 많이 보는구나.
