 V-기 바라다, V-주시기 바랍니다 grammar = (1) hope, wish; (2) please do, be requested ~express one’s hope or request something formally

 

Usage:

- (1) V-기 바라다 is used to express one’s hope or wish = I hope, I wish

- (2) V-주(시)기 바랍니다 is used to request something from an official announcement. The expression is common seen or hear in the airport, on bus, on train, in hospital, in text message, etc. It has the same meaning as 아/어 주세요, but more formal = please do, be requested to

- 기 바라다 is also often used as -기를 바라다 or -길 바라다 without meaning change

 

 

Tense:

Verb + -기 바라다 / -기 바랍니다 / -기 바라요

가다 -> 가기 바라다 -> 가기 바랍니다 -> 가기 바라요.

낫다 -> 낫기 바라다 -> 낫기 바랍니다 -> 낫기 바라요.

살다 -> 살기 바라다 -> 살기 바랍니다 -> 살기 바라요.

먹다 -> 먹기 바라다 -> 먹기 바랍니다 -> 먹기 바라요.

수정하다 -> 수정하기 바랍니다 -> 수정하기 바라요.

합격하다 -> 합격하기 바랍니다 -> 합격하기 바라요.

취직하다 -> 취직하기 바랍니다 -> 취직하기 바라요.

 

Exceptional adjectives + -기 바라다 / -기 바랍니다

행복하다 -> 행복하(시)기 바랍니다

건강하다 -> 건강하(시)기 바랍니다

Hope everything goes well.

2. 빨리 회복하시기 바랍니다.

I hope you recover quickly.

 

3. 생일 축하해요! 오늘 하루 즐겁게 보내기 바라요.

Happy Birthday! I hope you enjoy your day.

 

4. 열심히 공부해서 이번 시험에 합격하기 바라요.

I hope you study hard and pass this exam.

 

5. 부모님이 항상 건강하고 행복하시기 바랍니다.

I hope my parents are always healthy and happy.

 

6. 고기를 많이 먹지 말고 야채를 더 많이 먹기를 바랍니다.

I hope you don't eat a lot of meat and eat more vegetables.

 

7. 이번 파티에 많은 사람들이 오시길 바랍니다.

I hope many people will come to this party.

 

8. 새해 복 많이 받으시고 올해도 건강하시기 바랍니다.

Happy New Year and wish you good health this year as well.

 

9. 대학 졸업반이어서 요즘 취직 준비를 하고 있어요.

- 학점이 좋으니까 잘 될 거예요. 좋은 곳에 취직하기 바라요.

I'm in my final year of college, so I'm preparing for a job these days.

- You will do well because your grades are good. I hope to get a job in a good place.

 

10. 이번 학기에는 장학금을 받아야 하는데 걱정이에요.

- 그래요? 그럼 오늘부터 열심히 공부해서 장학금을 받기 바라요.
